Our Approach to Psychological Well-being

The Counsellor, Sucheta, brings professional experience from both the United Kingdom and India, offering a cross-cultural understanding of psychological well-being, emotional distress, family dynamics, individual differences, communication difficulties, adolescent concerns, complex mental health needs and the importance of adapting therapy to the person rather than applying a single approach to every client. She offers an integrative and individualised approach to therapy, combining evidence-informed psychological approaches with wellbeing practices according to each client's needs, goals, personality, and presenting concerns. Depending on client needs and therapeutic goals, the work may draw upon the following approaches:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on understanding the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It can help clients recognise unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier responses, and build practical coping strategies.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT-informed work focuses on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. It may be especially helpful for individuals struggling with intense emotions, impulsive reactions, relationship difficulties, or emotional overwhelm.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT helps clients develop psychological flexibility by learning to relate differently to difficult thoughts and emotions, clarify personal values, and take meaningful action in areas that matter to them.

Mindfulness-Based Approaches

Mindfulness practices help clients develop greater awareness of thoughts, emotions, and bodily experiences in the present moment. These approaches may support stress reduction, emotional regulation, concentration, and self-awareness.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy provides space for deeper exploration of emotional difficulties, relationship patterns, past experiences, internal conflicts, coping styles, and recurring psychological themes.

Person-Centred Therapy and Humanistic Approach

The Counsellor follows a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental, and person-centred approach. Therapy respects each client's individuality and supports self-understanding, personal growth, emotional awareness, and authentic decision-making.

Attachment theory

We often think our relationship habits or anxieties are just part of who we are. But actually, they are strategies we learned a long time ago to keep ourselves safe and connected. In this therapy, we look at client’s early relationships to understand the 'blueprint' one was given for how people show love, handle conflict, and give support. Once we see that blueprint, we can rewire the parts that are no longer working for the client, using the therapy sessions as a safe practice ground.
